The Honourable Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Ondo State, Barr. Deji Falae, has applauded the initiative of NICO, in coming out with a well thought-out proposal, aimed at sensitizing the various publics on the enormous viability of the cultural resources abound in the state.

He made this known when the NICO Zonal Head, Mr. Ohi Ojo, on Wednesday, 4th September, 2013, led a team to his office to make a presentation on the proposal, submitted earlier to the ministry.

The Commissioner, who was represented by the Permanent Secretary in the ministry, Dr. (Mrs.) Modupeola Catherine Akenroye, sought proper clarifications on the stakeholders involved in achieving the goals and objectives of the proposal, promising that a joint committee, comprising members from the Ministry and NICO, will be set up to harmonize the implementation strategies for the proposal.

Earlier in his presentation, the Head of NICO SWZ, Mr. Ohi Ojo, highlighted the equidistant location of Akure, from Abuja and Lagos, and the need to draw people from such cities, considering the state of security, absence of traffic gridlocks, and the serene nature of Akure, and that people can get away from the usual hustle and bustle of everyday life in Lagos and Abuja to come to Akure for Annual General Meetings, conferences, workshops, trainings, vacation, and so on.

He pointed out that the economic vibrancy of Akure, if well harnessed, will not only increase the internally generated revenue of the state, but also act as a spin-araltound for the town to be a preferred tourism destination, as those in the tourism business, transportation and other informal businesses, had a lot to benefit, just as there will be private sector participation to drive the process.

It would be recalled that the Zonal office, on Wednesday, August 7, 2013, sent a proposal to the Honourable Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Ondo State, with the catch-phrase, “Get away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Come to Akure… the new face of relaxation,” a proposal the Commissioner acknowledged as well thought-out.
