In exercise of constitutional obligation of Oversight functions, the House Committee On Culture and Tourism is embarking on oversight visits to the Federal Ministry of Culture, Tourism and National Orientation and its Parastatals, to ascertain the level releases, expenditure and implementation of the 2014 budget from January to date.

A statement signed by the Chairman of the Committee, Hon. Ben Nwankwo, requested the Ministry and the Parastatals to forward 35 copies of their detailed accounts, “as per item-by-item and backed up by concrete and adequate evidences,” showing the extent to which the budget had been implemented.

The schedule of the oversight visit shows that Team A will visit the Ministry, National Gallery of Art (NGA) and National Institute for Cultural Orientation (NICO), Wednesday, 16th July, just as Team C will be heading to Lagos to oversight National Theatre, National Troupe and Centre for Black and African Arts and Civilisation; Team B will be at Nigerian Tourism Development Corporation (NTDC) and National Council for Arts & Culture (NCAC) on Thursday, 17th July; while Team D will oversight National Institute for Hospitality and Tourism (NIHOTOUR) and National Commission for Museums and Monuments (NCMM) on Friday, 18th July.

Meanwhile, the Executive Secretary of National Institute for Cultural Orientation (NICO), Dr. Barclays Foubiri Ayakoroma, has assured that the oversight visit offers a veritable platform for stakeholders to collectively appraise the performance indices of the Institute as the capacity building arm in the culture sector.
