storyThe Director of Administration and Human Resources, National Institute for Cultural Orientation (NICO), Barr. Abayomi Oyelola, mni, who was in Owerri, Imo State to attend the 2014 Annual Conference of the Nigeria Bar Association (NBA), on Thursday, 28th of August, paid an unscheduled visit to the South-East Zonal Office of the Institute in Owerri.

In a brief meeting with members of staff of the Zone, the Director encouraged staff not to despair in spite of the low level of activity arising from paucity of funds, noting the fact that, the country was facing a lot of crises, especially at the leadership level and implored staff to always pray for the leaders.

Oyelola averred that, developing one’s self morally, spiritually, environmentally, and otherwise, and being able to contribute to the growth of one’s community were all imbedded in our culture; thus there was need to revisit our cultural values for Nigeria to be greater.

According to him, staff would also need to think outside the box, build their careers, endeavour to broaden their knowledge by finding time to read, and make the needed effort in helping the Executive Secretary of NICO, Dr. Barclays Foubiri Ayakoroma, realize his vision for the Institute.

story1Finally, he enunciated four principles, which he believed, would help any individual determined in achieving self actualization and corporate growth, thus: 1. What is Ours is Ours; 2. Appreciation, goodwill and good intent; 3. Enable each other to do great works; and 4. After every chaos comes settlement; maintaining that, these principles, if strictly applied, will assist staff in staying on top of the game and reaching the pinnacle.

Responding, the Zonal Co-ordinator, Mrs. Chioma Duru, appreciated the Director for his enlightening and uplifting remarks, especially in emphasizing that NICO and Nigeria were for everybody and that members of staff cannot go far if they kept reasoning along ethnic lines.

She still enjoined staffers to practice what they had heard and to ask God for the grace to work to the best of their abilities; just as she prayed God to grant Barr. Oyelola journey mercy back to his destination.
