The Amalgamated Union of Public Corporations, Civil Service Technical and Recreational Services Employees (AUPCTRE) in the South-South Zone was strengthened, Monday, 5th October, 2015, with the inauguration ceremony of AUPCTRE South-South Zonal Headquarters in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State by the Union’s National President, Comrade Solomon Adeleke.

Officially inaugurating the office and declaring it commissioned, the National President, popularly referred to as, the Iroko of AUPCTRE maintained that the essence of creating the South-South Zonal Headquarters was to enhance the activities of the Union in the zone as well as strengthening the activities of its members in the zone.

He regretted that as a result of operating from a distance, states are made to face administrative challenges on good service delivery thereby suffering members, particularly in terms of good working relationship with workers because of lack of closeness to the grassroots, noting that State AUPCTRE Chapters in the Zone prior to the inauguration have been under the Eastern and Western Zones and the structure was not favourable to union administration.

Comrade Adeleke added that except power is decentralized, there will always be difficulty in administering local branches of the Union from a distance, reminding the newly-elected officers that will run the new office that unionism was all about workers welfare; and therefore charged them to be up and doing as they carry out their duties in the zone.

In his acceptance speech on behalf of the new Exco, the new AUPCTRE South-South Zonal Headquarters Chairman, who is the immediate past Chairman of AUPCTRE Western Zone, Comrade A. Adeleku expressed his gratitude for the opportunity given them to serve in their various capacities and assured AUPCTRE that electing them to office will not turn to a disappointment at the end.

The State AUPCTRE Chapters under the South-South Zonal Headquarters are Bayelsa, where the Headquarters is located, Edo, Delta, Rivers, Akwa Ibom and Cross River states.

Present at the event were AUPCTRE National Vice-President, Comrade Evans Olunwa; the National Secretary, Comrade Jang Bot; the National Auditor, Comrade A. Eyode; Women Commission Chairperson, Comrade O. Ann; the current Western Zone Chairman, Comrade Oyensanmi Ilesanmi; the Eastern Zone Secretary, Comrade G. O, Eze; all AUPCTRE State Chairmen and Members of their Executive Councils in the South-South zone, including that of Bayelsa State, Comrade E. Labode.
