Arojah Royal Theatre, an Abuja-based theatre outfit is set to take a touring performance of its annual festival/harvest of celebration of one of Nigeria’s greatest living literary ambassadors, Professor Wole Soyinka’s birthday, tagged “Kongi’s Harvest” to Keffi, the Nasarawa State capital.
In a mail signed by OmÓba Jerry Adesewo, the Artistic Director of Arojah Royal Theatre, sent to the Head, Department of Theatre and Cultural Studies, Nasarawa State University, Keffi (NSUK), and made available to NICO News, the group’s performance of “What the Hunter Saw”, which is a probe into the works of Wole Soyinka (WS) and his Swedish counterpart, Tomas Transtromer, is expected to take place at the Nasarawa State University, Keffi (NSUK) on Tuesday, 9th August, 2016.
According to him, the works of the duo, which will centre on poetry and play, is also expected to give Theatre and Cultural Studies students at NSUK, as well as other interested students, a good opportunity to engage in a fact finding mission into the world of the legendary Wole Soyinka.
Kongi’s Harvest, an annual festival/harvest commemorating Professor Wole Soyinka’s birthday has been celebrated annually since he turned 77 in July 2011. In 2015, the festival was expanded to what is now known as, KONGI’s HARVEST, where the production of the first edition of the repackaged event, which held in Abuja centred on Wole Soyinka’s “Childe Internationale”, an excerpt of Esiaba Irobi’s Gold Frankincense and Myrrh, with performances of a selection of Wole Soyinka’s poems and poems written in his honour.
