His Royal Highness Igwe Dr. Emmanuel O. Ugwu (Eze Okwe 1 of Okwe Kingdom), has been presented with an award, the Cultural Mayor of NICO Enugu, by National Institute for Cultural Orientation, Enugu State Office.

The award presentation was done by NICO Enugu State Head, Mr. Nnaemeka Nwajagu, on behalf of the Executive Secretary, Assoc. Prof. Barclays Foubiri Ayakoroma, at the Igwe’s Enenwudera Palace during his Ofala festival, tagged, ‘Ofala Ndi Nso’.

According to Nwajagu, the award was in recognition of his being a custodian and promoter of Igbo culture, saying: “Igwe Emma Ugwu has been a bridge between the North and South when it comes to culture which falls into the NICO mandate – harnessing culture for National development”.Continuing, the NICO Enugu State Head stated: “We are very happy to partner His Royal Highness and we are confident that he will be a channel to bring a good relationship between the indigenes of Enugu State and herdsmen in the State as regards the present serious security threat to the State”.

In his response, His Royal Highness Igwe Dr. Emma Ugwu expressed his gratitude to NICO’s Executive Secretary, Prof. Barclays Ayakoroma, for having found him worthy of such an outstanding award from the apex cultural training institute in the Federation, promising not to relent in his effort and contribution towards the promotion of culture and support for the Institute.

Igwe1Present at the Igwe’s palace were the Deputy Governor of Enugu State, Chief (Mrs.) Cecilia Ezilo, who represented the Executive Governor of Enugu State, His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi; Chief Solomon Agu, Ogbuefi Chimereeze (NICO Cultural Ambassador); Sir Eddy E. Okolo, ES, Enugu State Culture & Arts Council (NICO Cultural Ambassador); Chief Dom Onu, a veteran actor and NICO Enugu Staff.In the occasion some prominent people were conferred chieftaincy title while some were given recognition as illustrious sons and daughters of Ibeagwa Nike Community, including, Nollywood veteran, Mrs. Chinwe Owoh.
