The National Institute for Cultural Orientation (NICO), in furtherance of its statutory mandate, is set to organise the 2017 Annual Children’s Cultural Extravaganza to commemorate the International Children’s Day, with the theme: “Our Culture, Our Pride and Heritage”.

A press release, signed by Caleb Nor, on behalf of the Executive Secretary, Assoc. Prof. Barclays Foubiri Ayakoroma, says the Children’s Cultural Extravaganza, which is designed to educate children on the gains of embracing their cultures and speaking their indigenous languages, will have students from select Secondary Schools in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

The release further states that, the Cultural Extravaganza will foster a sense of cultural identity, pride and awareness in our children; promote cultural education and scholarship amongst students; encourage the appreciation of Nigerian Languages, dresses, cuisines and music at all levels of social integration; create a platform to discover young talents in culture and creative arts as well as promote the culture of peaceful co-existence and unity amongst students from diverse ethnic and religious backgrounds.

Meanwhile, veteran Nollywood actor, Dr. Sam Dede of Issakaba fame, is expected to deliver a lecture on the topic: “Our Culture, Our Pride and Heritage”, and have interactive session with the students, as a role model.

The Cultural Extravaganza will have students from the various schools participating in non-competitive events, such as, rendition of our National Anthem in indigenous languages; traditional fashion parade; traditional music and dance; roundtable discussions on “The Importance of Indigenous Languages to National Development”, and Decent Dressing and Nigeria Dress Culture”.

While the Lagos edition holds on Thursday, 25th May, 2017, at the Cinema Hall 1, National Theatre, Iganmu-Lagos, by 10am, the Abuja edition of the event holds on Friday, 26th May, 2017, at Merit House, Maitama, by 10am.
