The Executive Governor of Nasarawa State, His Excellency, Alhaji Umaru Tanko Al-Makura, has said that he will continue to support traditional institutions in the state through institutional mechanisms and conducive environment that will enable then discharge their leadership roles, saying his administration believed that it is one of the ways through which paramount rulers in the state can be galvanized to mobilize their subjects to support government policies and programmes.

Al-Makura made this known on Sunday, 6th August, 2017 at the official installation and presentation of Staff of Office to the Emir of Karshi, His Royal Highness, Alhaji Dr. Sani Mohammed Bako III, at Government Secondary School, Karshi, Karu Local Government Area of Nasarawa State.

According to the Governor, his administration’s continued support for the inclusion of the roles of traditional rulers in the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria is informed by the view that if the traditional institution in the country is given a pride of place, the social and economic development of the nation will go a long way in sustaining peace and social cohesion, as well as produce responsive and productive citizens in the country.

While reiterating his administration’s commitment to building a state that will compete favourably with first generation states in the country in terms of socio-economic development, Al-Makura, who said government considers the role of royal fathers as sacrosanct in view of the enormous responsibilities conferred on them in defending the traditions and customs, challenged government at all levels, saying if they must succeed, the participation, roles and cooperation of traditional rulers must be made fundamental.

He therefore congratulated Alhaji Dr. Mohammed Sani Bako III for emerging as the new Emir of Karshi; and expressed confidence that though the very big shoe he now wears is highly demanding, he will not only be meticulous to bring his pedigree, capacity and craftsmanship to fill the vacuum, but will also be creative in confronting all challenges to enable him, as an accomplished research fellow and technocrat, to sustain the achievements of his late father.

In his response, the Emir of Karshi, His Royal Highness, Alhaji Dr. Sani Mohammed Bako III, expressed his profound gratitude to Allah for making the day a reality and prayed Allah to continue to guide, protect and give him the knowledge to rule the people towards the development of the state.

He maintained that the entire good people of Karshi Emirate Council remain indebted to the administration of Governor Tanko Al-Makura and the Government of Nasarawa State for finding him worthy to be presented with a 1st Class Staff of Office as the Emir of Karshi.

Ibrahim Balarabe Abdullahi; former Executive Governor of Nasarawa State, His Excellency Senator Abdullahi Adamu; the Emir of Kano, Alhaji (Dr.) Sanusi Mohammed Sanusi; Emir of Bauchi, Alhaji Suleiman Adamu; Emir of Lafia, Alhaji (Dr.) Isa Mustapha; Emir of Keffi, Alhaji Dr. Shehu Chindo Yamusa III; Chun Mada, Dr. Samson Gare; HRM Igwe Emmanuel Ugwu of Enugu State; and former ADC to General Sani Abacha, Major Hamza Al-Mustapha (rtd), among other dignitaries.

The Executive Secretary, National Institute for Cultural Orientation (NICO), Associate Professor Barclays Foubiri Ayakoroma, was accompanied to the event by the Institute’s Director, Administration and Human Resources, Alhaji Ibrahim Husseini; and Head of Legal Unit, Barrister Musa Kakamba, among others.
