Ogun State Cultural Troupe Shines At UNESCO’s Africa Week 2017

Artists of the Ogun State Cultural Troupe, yesterday, made the Nigerian nation proud in the global arena, at the newly-renovated Hall One of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) Headquarters, Fontenoy, Paris, as they treated guests to a very scintillating performance as part of the Gala Night of the Africa Week 2017 at UNESCO.

The Ogun State Troupe presented a ten minutes excerpt from a dance performance, entitled, “Drums of Peace”; and they featured at the event alongside 13 other African countries, namely, Algeria, Cameroon, Cape Verde,  Comoros, Cote D'Ivoire, Egypt, Ethiopia, Guinea, Liberia, Morocco, Tanzania, and Tunisia, all rendering music, dance or fashion parade.

To the Ambassador, the Permanent Delegation of Nigeria to UNESCO, Her Excellency, Mrs. Mariam Y. Katagum, it was all smiles as her colleagues crowded around her for handshakes, hugs, and pecks; while those, who were not seated close to her, were quick to send her congratulatory text messages, saying it was “the performance of the evening”.

The elation of the Ogun State Honourable Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Rt. Hon. Muyiwa Oladipo, was not different, as he observed that the UNESCO performance has been a dream come true; and like a fulfilled football coach, he said with smiles: “The artists have done very well; and I give due credit to my governor, His Excellency, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, for believing in me; and for giving me this unique opportunity to bring my artists, not only to France, but to UNESCO HQ, in Paris, where we have had the rare privilege of showcasing our talent to about 195 UNESCO States Parties.”

It will be recalled that the idea of the performance tour of the Ogun State Cultural Troupe to UNESCO was mooted by the Executive Secretary of National Institute for Cultural Orientation, Dr. Barclays Foubiri Ayakoroma, and the request from Ambassador (Mrs.) Mariam Y. Katagum received the prompt approval of the culture-loving governor of the state, His Excellency, Senator Ibikunle Amosun.
