NICO Hosts 2-Day National Workshop On Nigerian Dress Culture

The National Institute for Cultural Orientation (NICO), today, hosts a 2-Day National Workshop on Nigerian Dress Culture with theme: “Nigerian Dress Culture and Sustainable Development” at the Justice Kutugi International Conference Centre, Minna, Niger State at 10am. 

The 2-Day National Workshop, which will have the Honourable Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, as Special Guest of Honour, will be chaired by Honourable Omoregie Ogbeide-Ihama, Chairman, House of Representatives Committee on Culture and Tourism.

His Excellency, Alhaji Abubakar Bello, the Executive Governor of Niger State, will be the Keynote Speaker; the Royal Father of the Day will be His Royal Highness, Alhaji Umar Bahogo, Emir of Minna.

The workshop, which is aimed at achieving attitudinal change towards the ameliorating the influence of Western culture will showcase the beauty in diversity of our Nigerian dress; rekindle interest and pride in our indigenous dress patterns; encourage unity among the different ethnic groups through integrated dress culture; enhance economic growth of our local textile industries and stimulate job and wealth creation in the industry.

With Professor Rasaki Ojo Bakare of the Federal University, Oye-Ekiti chairing the technical session at the workshop, the event promises to better re-orientate Nigerians on the need to think and appear Nigeria through our dress culture.

Already, over ten (10) schools are expected to participate in fashion parade of the various ethnic nationalities of Nigeria, such as, traditional marriage, ceremonial, work place and religious worship among others.
