What You Are Doing Is Very Important To Africa – Prof. Amali Tells Ayakoroma

The Vice-Chancellor, Nasarawa State University Keffi (NSUK), Professor Shamsdeen Amali, has told the Executive Secretary, National Institute for Cultural Orientation (NICO), Dr. Barclays Foubiri Ayakoroma, that he admires the role NICO is playing in the Nigerian cultural sector, saying it is very important to the African continent.

Professor Amali, who stated this in his office, when the ES visited him during the NICO and NSUK Affiliation talks, stressed that NICO needs to be given serious attention and the necessary support to fulfil its mandate.

He said that Dr. Ayakoroma needed such support because in the whole world over, Africa is known because of the arts and culture, not science and technology.

Reiterating that Africa is the cradle of culture, he posited: “For Africa to make impact in science and technology, we need the arts and culture. That was what Japan did. They used culture to project science. The truth is that Dr. Ayakoroma is doing very well to Nigerian culture. He is really projecting it to the top in Africa. He is doing things that would take African culture to the top. You are all aware that even Democracy started in Africa, as traditional African village meetings where the leaders were selected. Even the coat the white men wear now started in Sokoto here in Nigeria as monkey jacket. If you visit Senegal you will see a lot of cultural artefacts documented in the museum there.”

Professor Amali, who commended Dr. Ayakoroma over his management style in NICO, Nigeria’s Apex Cultural Institute, added that the ES is really putting his wealth of experience to bear in NICO, and as such: “deserved to be given serious support. I want to assure you that I am admiring the way you manage Nigerian culture. You are doing well. It has been proved that other resources like petrol will finish, but culture will remain. Culture will take us to the top. So keep it up.”

The ES was accompanied by a top management staff of NICO, namely, the Director, Training School, Mr. Innocent Azuobu; Barr. Abayomi Oyelola mni, Director, Administration and Human Resources; Deputy Director and SA to the ES, Mr. Nelson Campbell, Assistant Director, Protocol, Mr. Alex Omijie, and Assistant Director, Legal, Barr. Musa Kakamba.
