Nigerians have been advised to use culture to overcome those beating the drums of disunity in the country.
The Executive Governor of Kwara State, His Excellency Alhaji Abdulfatah Ahmed, stated this today while officially declaring open the 8th Meeting of the National Council on Tourism, Culture and National Orientation, taking place in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital.
The Governor, who was represented by his Deputy, Elder Peter Kishira, said the theme of the Council meeting, “Leveraging Tourism, Culture and National Orientation for National Peace and Unity,” captures the desire of every Nigerian and that we should, as a people, leverage on our cultural identity, to foster peace and unity in the country.
Governor Ahmed added that the time had come for us to de-emphasize our differences and promote our uniqueness as a people, stressing that the tourism industry had the additional potential of providing jobs for the youth and generating revenue necessary for the provision of vital infrastructural development and economic growth that will enhance the wellbeing of the people.
He therefore urged delegates to identify ways of positively encouraging the promotion of the diverse cultures of our people to ensure peaceful co-existence in our nation.
