The air of uncertainty over the hosting of this year’s National Festival of Arts and Culture (NAFEST 2012), has been cleared as Kwara State Government has reconfirmed its readiness to host the cultural fiesta, popularly called, Unity Forum, in Ilorin, the capital of Kwara state, “the state of harmony.”
The Executive Director of the National Council for Arts and Culture, Mr. Malgwi Mwajim Maidugu, disclosed this to Nico news at the 8th Council Meeting of the National Council on Tourism Culture and National Orientation, in the Ilorin, the Kwara state capital.
Mr. Maidugu said that the festival takes place from the 13th to 20th of October, 2012, with the theme, “Culture, Peace and National Economic Empowerment,” adding that NAFEST is meant to emphasize the cultural elements that promote unity and peaceful co-existence.
The festival, which began in 1970, was designed as one of the ways that culture can be used to promote national integration and unity, and it has been redesigned to serve as platform for job and economic empowerment, thus, the theme for this year.
