altThe Association of Nigerian Authors (ANA) has received a donation from Yusuf Ali (SAN) for this year’s reading campaign tagged: ANA/Yusuf Ali Reading Campaign.

During the first edition, held between June 12 and July 3, 2012, 16 state chapters benefited from grants of N150,000 each. They were Akwa Ibom, Anambra, Bayelsa, Benue, Imo, Kano, Kaduna, Kebbi, Kwara, Lagos, Niger, Ondo, Oyo, Plateau, and Rivers. The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) also gained from it.

Following its success, the association has secured N3 million fund from the sponsor of the campaign, Ali (SAN). He has promised to continue funding the reading campaign.

ANA President, Professor Remi Raji, said: “ANA partnership with Yusuf Ali goes to show that the new ANA mindset of the 2011/13 EXCO is yielding desired results. Ali’s reposing of trust in the Association is also a statement of his satisfaction with the execution of the campaign last year. We will draw up a list of chapters who will benefit from the campaign this year and make it public; the funds will be disbursed at the next Council of Chairmen and Secretaries meeting holding in April at Ilorin, the Kwara State capital.”

Raji also called on more institutions and personalities to come and partner the association in the way Ali, Mrs. Babangida Aliyu, and the YSG Hubs groups have done in the last one year.

According to ANA General Secretary, it is good for the promotion of literature in the country.
