The Enugu State Office of the National Institute for Cultural Orientation (NICO) has been given a pat on the back, for its giant strides in re-awakening the cultural consciousness of people in the state within a short frame of time.
HRH Igwe (Barr.) Julius Nnaji (Odezuluigbo III of Nike), the Traditional Ruler of Nike Kingdom, who also doubles as Chairman, Enugu State Traditional Council of Chiefs, made the commendation in his palace, during a courtesy call on him by staffers of NICO Enugu, led by the Head, Mr. Nwajagu Nnaemeka.
Citing the example of “Britain and the Asian Tigers,” the monarch observed that no nation can achieve economic prosperity, laced in technological advancement, without culture, promising to invite Mr. Nwajagu to the next Plenary Session of the Council of Chiefs as a platform for NICO to effectively sensitize the royal fathers.
Earlier in his brief, the Head, NICO Enugu State Office, Mr. Nnaemeka Nwajagu, said culture is the life-wire of any society, stressing that, it was against this backdrop that the NICO Executive Secretary, Dr. Barclays Foubiri Ayakoroma, through the various programmes of the Institute, has embarked on an aggressive policy of cultural renaissance, spreading to the nooks and crannies of the country.
Also speaking, Mr. Austine Okezie of the Research and Documentation Unit lent his voice by reeling out the aims, objectives and programmes of NICO to Igwe Nnaji and his Council of Chiefs.
Highlights of the visit were traditional presentation of kola nuts by the Igwe in Council to the State Head, Mr. Nnaemeka Nwajagu, and the latter’s presentation of wine and NICO News to the former, as a symbol of welcome and a mark of respect for traditional authority, respectively.
