Students’ of the Post graduate, NICO Training School, Abuja Study Centre, on Friday, 11th December, 2015 concluded their project defence at the Institute’s headquarters, Abuja, in partial fulfilment for the award of Post Graduate Diploma in Cultural Administration (PGDCA).

drclayIn his opening remark, the Executive Secretary of NICO, Dr. Barclays Foubiri Ayakoroma, who is a Visiting Associate Professor in the Department of Theatre and Culture Studies, Nasarawa State University, Keffi (NSUK), said the essence of having an open defence was to prove the originality of the works and build some level of confidence in students, urging students to be relaxed and articulate in their presentations.

The project defence was done in the following order: Aigbodion Sunday OGBUAN who wrote on the topic: “Culture and Healthcare Delivery in Nigeria: A Case Study of Owan West Local Government Traditional Practices;” Ramatu Yusuf ABDULLAHI – “The Socio-cultural Relevance of Festivals: A Study of Gbagyi Knunu Festival of Rubochi Community in Kuje Area Council, Federal Capital Territory, Abuja;” Nkiru Edith SAMUEL – “The Prospect of Alternative Dispute Resolution in Nigeria: A Case Study of Abuja Multi-Door Courthouse, Gudu-Abuja;” Sarauniya NAKWADA – “Investigating Various Means of Promoting Cham Language Spoken in Balanga Local Government Area of Gombe State, Nigeria;” and Finelady Chinonye MUSHINWA – “The Socio-Cultural Implications of Child Adoption: A Case Study of Abiriba in Ohafia Local Government Area of Abia State.”

The second session had presentations from Alfred Ogbe HERBERT, on the topic, “The Educational and Socio-Cultural Roles of Museums in Nigeria: A Case Study of National Museum, Lagos;” – Zainab Lamido MOHAMMED – “An Appraisal of the Dress Culture Programme of National Institute for Cultural Orientation (NICO);” and Olusegun IROKO, on the topic, “Nollywood and the Promotion of Nigeria’s International Image: Corridor of Power and Last Vote as Case Study.”

After the various presentations, one of the panellists, Prof. Mabel Evwierhoma, who is the Dean of Arts, University of Abuja and a Visiting Professor to NICO Training School, Abuja Study Centre, commended students for their efforts and advised them to be careful in what they write so that they could be proud of their project works in future.
