Anyaoku

Chief Emeka Anyaoku, former Secretary-General of the Commonwealth, has stressed the importance of Cultural Education as an important aspect of learning in any society all over the world.

He stated this in a key note address he presented at the opening of an exhibition marking the 70th Anniversary of the National Commission for Museums and Monuments (NCMM), on Thursday, 17th December, 2015 at the National Museum, Onikan, Lagos.

Anyaoku, who expressed his displeasure over the removal of the teaching of History as a subject from our schools curriculum in Nigeria by a past regime, said that History has a major role to play in the development of any nation, quoting the Roman philosopher, Cicero that, “to be ignorant of the past is to remain always a child.”

He thus advocated the reintroduction of the teaching of History in the Nigerian schools system.
