All is set for the18th Edition Of Its Inaugural Lecture Series of the University of Abuja, as the Dean of Arts and Professor in the Department of Theatre Arts of the University, Professor Mabel Itohanosa Erioyunvwen Evwierhoma deliver a lecture, entitled, “Mother is Gold: The Mater the Matter and Women-Centred Approaches in Nigerian Drama and Theatre”.
The event, which is organised by the Professor Bawuro Barkindo-led Inaugural Lecture Committee, will have the Vice Chancellor of the University of Abuja, Professor Michael U. Adikwu, in attendance and will take place at the Main Auditorium, Faculty of Management, Main Campus of the University at 2.00pm
The lecture promises to be very exciting considering the volume of work Professor Mabel Evwierhoma has contributed to Gender Studies in Nigeria, and indeed Africa, and the fact that she has scored many firsts’ in her academic career, including, first female head of department, theatre arts; first female professor of Theatre Arts, University of Abuja; first female professor of theatre arts to be dean of arts; first female professor to present an inaugural lecture from faculty of arts; among others,
It will be recalled that as recognition of her numerous contributions to knowledge, a book, Gender Discourse in African Theatre, Literature and Visual Arts. A Festschrift in Honour of Professor Mabel Evwierhoma, edited by Tracie Utoh-Ezeajugh and Barclays Foubiri Ayakoroma, was produced in her honour.
