The Acting Executive Secretary, National Institute for Cultural Orientation (NICO), Mr. Louis Eriomala, has charged the new executives members of the Amalgamated Union of Public Corporations, Civil Service Technical and Recreational Services Employees (AUPCTRE), NICO branch, to set goals that will chart the way forward for union activities in the institute.

Eriomala, who gave this charge on Wednesday, July 11, 2018, when the officials of the union paid him a courtesy visit at the institute’s head office, said it is the only way they can make a difference for the three years they will be in office.

According to him, the only way to make impact is for them to prioritise the needs of the union, learn from the mistakes of their predecessors and ensure they meet regularly to update members and address issues that may concern their welfare.

In his words “You have been called to serve. You have been given a task that must be done and the people are waiting to see what you will do to make a difference, so you need to be very attentive to the needs of the union, set out goals for yourselves and device ways of achieving them”.

The NICO Boss who further admonished them not to see their emergence as executive members of the union as an opportunity to enrich themselves but as a call to serve, impact on lives and build themselves. He said a time will come for them to be rewarded by God.

Speaking earlier, the Chairman of the union, Comrade James Adediran, said their visit was necessitated by the need to formally present the new executive members of the union to management. He expressed deep appreciation to the Acting Executive Secretary for the fatherly role he has played in the institute since assumption of duty. “We have seen your works and we are impressed. Our prayer is for God to help you to do more and I must be sincere to say that you are indeed a father”.

He therefore pledged their commitment to work with management to ensure that the welfare of staff is giving priority as well as move the institute to a higher level.
