With the success story of the Quarterly Media Workshops for Arts Writers/Editors organized by National Institute for Cultural Orientation (NICO), some state governors have indicated interest to partner the Institute to host the redesigned programme in such states.

The Executive Secretary, National Institute for Cultural Orientation (NICO), Dr. Barclays Foubiri Ayakoroma, disclosed this while briefing the Principal Officers of Nasarawa State University, Keffi (NSUK), on NICO programmes during the Affiliation talk for the collaboration between both institutions.

Dr. Ayakoroma said many States will host the Media Workshop programme, which has had four editions in Federal Capital Territory, Abuja. They include Edo State, FCT-Abuja, Enugu State, Benue State, Akwa Ibom State, Gombe State, Cross River State, and Lagos State, among others.

He added that with this, the event will help market and project the culture of the hosting states, because it will showcase more activities than it had featured before.

He said: “This arrangement will benefit the hosting States. This is because, apart from the opening ceremony of the event and delivering of papers by resource persons, Nigerian Dress exhibition and guided tours will be part of the event. The State governments will take the visiting arts and culture writers and editors round the state on a guided tour of the tourist attractions and cultural artefacts in the state. These things will be extensively reported in their papers. It will boost the culture and tourism image of such states. We just finished a 3-Day Capacity-Building Workshop on the Domestication of the 2003 UNESCO Convention on Intangible Cultural Heritage (ICH) with UNESCO in Enugu. The states in Nigeria have many intangible cultural heritages and such things will delight the arts and culture journalists to write about. ’’
