AMAA 2016 – The Winners, The Honours

The 2016 edition of the Africa Movie Academy Awards (AMAA) took place on Saturday, 11th June, at the ultra-modern Obi Wali International Conference Centre, Port Harcourt, Rivers State, Nigeria, with veteran actors, Olu Jacobs, his wife, Joke Silva, Richard Mofe-Damijo (RMD), and Tony Akposheri (Zakky of New Masquerade), receiving the AMAA Award for Lifetime Achievement.

The list of winners of the 12th edition of AMAA, what could be rightly termed Africas Oscars, is as follows:

  2. Best Actor in Leading Role Daniel K. Daniel (A Soldier's Story)
  3. Best Actress in Leading Role Fulu Moguvhani (Ayanda)
  4. Best Actor in Supporting Role Abidine Dioari (Eye of the Storm)
  5. Best Actress in Supporting Role Thishiwe Ziqubu (Tell Me Sweet Something)
  6. Best Young Actor Zubaidat Ibrahim Fagge (Dry)
  7. Best Director Nana Obiri-Yeboah (The Cursed Ones)
  8. Best Nigerian Film Dry
  9. Best Film in African Language The Missing God (Nigeria)
  10. Best Short Film Meet the Parents (Nigeria/Canada)
  11. Best Diaspora Feature Ben & Ara (USA)
  12. Best Diaspora Documentary Spirits of Rebellion: Black Film at UCLA
  13. Michael Anyiam-Osigwe AMAA 2016 Award for Best Film by an African Living Abroad Lambadina  (Ethiopia/USA)
  14. Best Animation The Pencil (Burkina Faso)
  15. Best First Feature Film by a Director Greg Odutayo (Beyond Blood)
  16. Best Visual Effects Oshimiri (Nigeria)
  17. Best Soundtrack O-Town (Nigeria)
  18. Best Achievement in Sound Fifty
  19. Best Screenplay Tell Me Sweet Something
  20. Best Diaspora Short Film Across the Tracks (USA)
  21. Best Production Design The Cursed Ones (Ghana)
  22. Best Cinematography The Cursed Ones

It will be recalled that the AMA Awards debuted at the ultra-modern Gloryland Cultural Centre, Yenagoa, Bayelsa State in 2005, under the sponsorship of Bayelsa State Government.
