The Executive Secretary of the National Institute for Cultural Orientation, Dr. Barclays Foubiri Ayakoroma, has underscored the importance of capacity building in the culture sector to enhance service delivery, saying that it informs why the Institute initiated the National Workshop Series on “Repositioning Cultural Workers for Improved Productivity.”
Stating this while inspecting Traditional Furnished Apartments at the 26th edition of the National Festival of Arts and Culture (NAFEST 2012), holding in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital, Dr. Ayakoroma said the next edition of the workshop will take place at the Institute’s Training School Complex, National Theatre Annex, Iganmu-Lagos, from the 31st of October to the 2nd of November, 2012, and that it is targeted at cultural workers in the country.
The ES stressed that the only way an organization or government can achieve maximum performance is by training and building the capacity of its workers, and that the repositioning workshop is aimed at sensitizing and training cultural workers to be grounded in the cultural values and activities of Nigeria and to propagate culture for national development. He added: “The best legacy one can get in life is imparting knowledge; and it is by continuous training that staff can achieve desirable goals.”
He, therefore, implored state governments and culture stakeholders to invest more on capacity building to improve the lot of their workers so that they could contribute equitably to the growth and development of their states and the nation, at large.
