The 7th annual ordinary session of the Intergovernmental Committee for the Protection and Promotion of Cultural Diversity, composed of 24 State Party members, elected for 4 years by the Conference of Parties, to which it is accountable, started,Tuesday, December 10, 2013, at UNESCO Headquarters in Paris.
During its seventh ordinary session, the Committee is expected to examine the report on the implementation of the fundraising strategy and the action plan on the implementation of the Internal Oversight Service’s (IOS) recommendations regarding the International Fund for Cultural Diversity (IFCD).
The Committee will also examine new quadrennial periodic reports of Parties to the Convention received in 2013, the report on the impact of Article 21 of the Convention, and will focus its debates on the results of the strategy of ratification of the Convention achieved between 2010 and 2013.
Finally, the Committee will undertake a preliminary debate on digital technologies and their impact on the Convention as well as on the role of Public Service Broadcasting in achieving the objectives of the Convention.
Nigeria is among the observer countries in the intergovernmental committee, and the Executive Secretary, National Institute for Cultural Orientation (NICO), Dr. Barclays Ayakoroma, is attending the session.
