The Executive Secretary of the National Institute for Cultural Orientation (NICO), Dr. Barclays Foubiri Ayakoroma, has expressed grief over the death of one of Nigeria’s renowned and most distinguished movie producer, Amaka Igwe, saying the news of her death came to him as a rude shock.
Amaka Igwe’s sudden death, which occurred in Enugu, on Monday, 28th April, 2014, has already attracted a lot of reactions from the public with many describing her death as untimely and a return of the dark days in the Nigerian movie industry.
Amaka, as an accomplished writer, producer, director and leading player in the motion picture industry in Nigeria, was said to be in Enugu, in company of her husband, Chief Charles Igwe, who doubles as her producer, for pre-production arrangements of a new Igbo language soap opera before the cold hands of death took her away.
The late visionary and one of the pioneers of modern Nigerian TV drama and film, had hit national limelight as the writer and producer of the award-winning TV soap opera, Checkmate, Rattle Snake and the spin-off Fuji 
House of Commotion.
Her records in the movie industry, to mention a few, are founding the BoB TV Expo, CEO of Top Radio 90.9 FM, Amaka Igwe Studios, and the newly-launched Q Entertainment Networks.
Meanwhile, Amaka is survived by her husband of 21 years, three children, and an aged mother.
