The Executive Secretary of NICO, Dr. Barclays Ayakoroma, has lauded the reigning Queen of Áso, Miss Jennifer Igwuegbe, for championing and bringing to the fore a hidden syndrome hither-to not given serious attention. He described the slant of the Queen’s passion to care for the abused girl-child as thoughtful and unique.
The Executive Secretary made this assertion while receiving in audience Queen Jennifer Igwuegbe who paid him a courtesy visit in his Abuja office recently. He promised the Institute’s commitment to partner with her in her project aimed at addressing Vistula Vagina Fistula “VVF”. Dr. Ayakoroma also commended the Beauty Queen for promoting Nigerian culture through her dress-sense.
Earlier, the Queen of Aso had explained that she was in NICO to seek a close partnership with the Institute for her pet project, before the end of her tenure in October this year. She also intimated the Executive Secretary on her project to train young girls to acquire skills that would enable them become independent.
Vistula Vagina Fistula, known as “VVF” for short, is an abnormal condition that occurs in the cervix of immature females exposed to child delivery, leading to the incision of the vagina. This causes fatal injury to the girl resulting in the dreaded VVF syndrome, particularly the “under-aged”. VVF is common among teenage girls in the Northern part of Nigeria.
