The National Institute for Cultural Orientation (NICO) is set to partner with the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) to establish indigenous language clubs for corps members at the Community Development Services (CDS) level.

Executive Secretary/CEO of NICO, Otunba Biodun Ajiboye, announced this during the 2024 Batch C Edition of the Nationwide Indigenous Language Sensitization at the Iyana Ipaja NYSC Orientation Camp in Lagos.

Represented by Ms. Victoria Overo, the Director and Head of the Lagos Liaison Office, Otunba Ajiboye thanked the NYSC Director-General, Brigadier General Y.D. Ahmed for collaborating with NICO to promote Nigerian languages.

He said the Institute looks forward to NYSC’s approval for the establishment NICO Indigenous Language Clubs at the Community Development Centre level.

The 4-week intensive language training will equip participants with basic communication skills in their host communities, promoting national integration.

The indigenous language training programme covering Hausa, Igbo, and Yoruba is ongoing in the six geopolitical zones, using virtual classes to teach corps members the aforementioned languages.
