With the recent successful public presentation of the book, Trends In Nollywood: A Study of Selected Genres, an incisive work on the contemporary Nigerian movie industry written by an erudite scholar, cultural administrator and Executive Secretary, National Institute for Cultural Orientation (NICO), Dr. Barclays Foubiri Ayakoroma in Abuja, the Central Planning Committee (CPC) for the launch has disclosed that it has concluded plans to move the train of the public presentation of the book to Lagos.
A press release signed by Caleb Nor, on behalf of the CPC states that, the Lagos launch of the book, which will take place at the Cinema Hall 2, National Theatre, Iganmu-Lagos, on Tuesday, 2nd December, 2014, by 11am, will have the Honourable Minister of Culture, Tourism and National Orientation, Chief Edem Duke, as Special Guest of Honour.
The release further disclosed that, while the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Management Services, University of Lagos, Professor Duro Oni, will serve as Guest of Honour to the event, former Special Adviser to the President on Niger Delta Affairs, Chief Timi Alaibe will be Chairman of the occasion.
The Special Adviser to the President on Niger Delta Affairs, Hon. Kingsley Kuku, will serve as Book Presenter; while the Director-General, NIMASA, Mr. Akpobolokemi Patrick Ziakede will be the co-Presenter.
Meanwhile, the Head, Department of Theatre & Cultural Studies, Nasarawa State University, Keffi, Professor Emmanuel Dandaura as Book Reviewer, while Obigbo Mikimiki 1 of Opume Kingdom of Bayelsa State, HRH, King Dr. A.J. Turner, will be the Chief Host.
It will be recalled that the book, Trends in Nollywood, which is a product of Ayakoroma’s painstaking field research between 2004 and 2007 on Nollywood, was first presented in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), on Monday, 10th November, 2014, where dignitaries at the event lauded Ayakoroma’s indelible contributions to society’s intellectual growth and development.
The Lagos launch of the book is necessitated by the need to take the book to the industry players, which informs why the launch train is moving to Lagos, which remains the hub of Nollywood industry.
It is expected that further research work on Nollywood, which has become a cultural brand and reference point in Nigeria’s creative industry and indeed Africa will be carried out after the official lunch of the book.
