The Executive Secretary of the National Institute for Cultural Orientation (NICO), Dr. Barclays Foubiri Ayakoroma, has set up a Social Network Team to serve as another platform to further promote the activities of the Institute.
Addressing a 27-man team constituted on Friday, May 4, 2012, in the Board Room of the Institute at the Headquarters, located on No. 23, Kigoma Street, Wuse Zone 7, Abuja, the ES lectured the team members on how to post links from the Institute’s website to facebook social media in order to disseminate information and popularize the activities of NICO.
Ayakoroma, who stressed that the world is in an Information Technology age, where the internet has become a veritable platform for individuals and corporate organizations to promote themselves extensively, maintained that if NICO can seize the opportunity of utilizing the social media, which are available at no cost, the programmes of the Institute will be well appreciated worldwide.
According to him, since the NICO website is always active, each team member can link stories on the activities of the Institute to the various groups they belong to on facebook and once anybody from that group opens the NICO page, they will be moved to explore more and know what the Institute is all about.
He said: “The idea is for us to pass information to all friends of staff. It is my earnest desire that every staff should key into the NICO page. That way, every posting on NICO page will appear on your wall.”
He therefore charged members of the newly constituted team to be serious and committed towards the responsibility of promoting and projecting the image of the Institute so that people will know what the Institute is doing.
Apart from the official happenings of the Institute, the Social Network platform will also be an avenue where staff welfare issues could be posted to generate interest.
