National Institute for Cultural Orientation (NICO) Boss, Dr. Barclays Foubiri Ayakoroma has disclosed that project defence by the Institute’s Post Graduate Diploma in Cultural Administration (PGDCA) students will no longer be an internal exercise from the next academic year, 2015/2016 session, as external examiners from Nasarawa State University, Keffi (NSUK), will be in the Institute to perform this task.
Ayakoroma, who is also a Visiting Associate Professor to NSUK stated this on Monday, 7th December, 2015 during the first part of the project defence series held at NICO Training School, situated at the National Theatre Annex, Iganmu, Lagos.
The ES, who presided over the exercise, said that the project defence was aimed at establishing the authenticity of the research works carried out by the students, to ensure that they meet the optimum set standard, and adding that such works will no longer be limited to use by the Institute.
While commending the ES on the success of the exercise, the Director of NICO Training School, Lagos, Mrs. Brigitte Yerima emphasized that it was the first time that such justice has been done to project defence through in-depth questions and reactions.
She added that the initiative to include external examiners took the exercise a notch higher and will consequently enhance high standard of work output and urged the students to make the necessary corrections as pointed out by the assessors.
A supervisor and resource person, Mrs. Jane Ofili described the exercise as an eye opener stating that the knowledge acquired during the defence will be applied in the supervision of subsequent research works by the resource persons.
Other members of the defence panel were Mr Law Ezeh (Special Assistant to the Executive secretary and resource person), Mr. Ohi Ojo, (Zonal Coordinator, NICO North-Central) and Dr. Regina Onuoha (Coordinator, NICO Training School, Abuja Study Centre).
