Beginning from Wednesday, 19th to Saturday, 22nd October, 2016, the Nigerian Oral Literature Association (NOLA) will hold its 4th Bi-ennial Conference at the University of Abuja, Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory.

The Conference, hosted by the Faculty of Arts, University of Abuja, with the theme: “Orality, New Media and Creative Industries”, is expected to examine the influence of new media and its promotion of the creative industries in Nigeria and Africa.

According to information available to NICO News, the theme of the conference has been informed by the current evolutionary changes in the media and communication sector that have, in recent times, fostered efficient and seamless transmission of information, knowledge and interaction across the globe.

Radio, television and social media platforms, such as, Internet, facebook, linkedIn, YouTube, Twitter, Instagram, Whatsapp, Skye, Blogs, and various digital media devices enable billions of people to connect and interact; and all these phenomenal transformations give greater primacy to ORALITY and its associated media.”

Meanwhile, the conference is also expected to evaluate the effects of exponential changes on creative artists, scholars, researchers, policy makers, service providers, inventors and marketers, among others, as well as their contributions to national economic growth and diversification.

The conference, which has Professor GG Darah, the NOLA Preseident as Convener and Professor AA Kolawole, DVC, University of Abuja, as LOC Chair, will have Professor Mobolanle Ebunoluwa Sotunsa of Babcock University, Inisan-Remo, as Keynote Speaker, Professor Michael Adikwu, the Vice Chancellor, University of Abuja, as Chief Host; just as Professors Chinyere Nwahunanya of Abia State University, Uturu and Nereus Yerima Tadi of Gombe State University are expected to present lead papers.
