Niger State Government has stated its readiness to collaborate with the National Institute for Cultural Orientation (NICO) in promoting Nigeria’s cultural identity, considering the fact that the Institute has performed creditably in sensitizing the citizenry towards adopting culture-oriented lifestyles.
This was the position of the State Honourable Commissioner for Information, Honourable Jonathan Tsado Vatsa, in an interview to journalists at the opening ceremony of a 2-Day National Workshop on “Nigerian Dress Culture and Sustainable National Development”, organized by NICO.
The opening ceremony of the workshop, held at the Justice Idris Kutigi International Conference Centre, Minna, Niger State, on the 6th of June 2017, under the distinguished Chairmanship of Hon. Omoregie Ogbeide-Ihama, Chairman, House Committee on Culture and Tourism, was part of programmes and activities in fulfilment of the Institute’s mandate of harnessing culture for national development.
Hon. Vatsa state that, “our culture is our identity”; therefore government at all levels have the responsibility of promoting it, and urged that parents should encourage their children to know and appreciate their culture at all times.
According to him, the workshop was an important step taken by the Institute in promoting the Nigerian dress culture, as it will a long way in driving the tourism industry in the country, noting that, the state government will work with NICO subsequently to achieve this noble objective.
The Honourable Commissioner stressed that, “culture promotes unity’’ and therefore the Niger State Government is committed to the development and sustenance of all aspects of our culture.
