His Royal Majesty King Dr. Edmund Daukoru Mingi XII, the Amayanabo of Nembe, said he appreciates the return of peace and security in the society through the use of culture. The traditional Ruler and former Group Managing Director (GMD) NNPC said this during the foundation laying ceremony of the palace at the headquarters of Upata Community, Ahoada East LGA River State on February 24, 2018. HRM Edmond Daukora maintained that lasting peace can only be achieved using culture to resolve conflict. The paramount ruler of Nembe Kingdom called on the government at all levels to consider alternative dispute resolutions (ADR) which is internalized and people oriented. Speaking further, he emphasised that the traditional institutions have a major role to play in the government of the nation.
On his part, the host and traditional ruler of Upata Community in Edeoha town of Ahoada Local Government Area of Rivers State, HRM Eze Dr. Felix E. Otawarikpo, Eze-Igbu Upata, noted the importance of culture in the socio-economic development of the nation. Eze F.E. Otuwarikpo stressed the need to use culture for economic diversification. He highlighted the various trainings, skills acquisition and people oriented programmes, which succeeded using traditional means.
Hence, he opined the use of the people’s culture in achieving national peace and community policing. He praised the management and staff of NICO for their effort at cultural re-awakening and positive re-orientation in the society.
The NICO’s goodwill message was delivered by the State Head, NICO Enugu, Mr. Nwajagu Nnaemeka, on behalf of the Ag. Executive Secretary, Mr. Louis Eriomala.
As expected the occasion attracted many traditional rulers, government officials, corporate organizations and other cultural organisations within and around the state. The epoch making event also featured several traditional dances and cultural displays that entertained the guests.
