The National Institute for Cultural Orientation (NICO) North Central Zonal Office, Ilorin, the Kwara State capital on Wednesday, August 1, 2018, flagged off its 9th edition of the Nigerian Indigenous Language Programme (NILP), featuring languages like Hausa, Yoruba, Igbo and Nupe.
In his speech, the Zonal Coordinator, Mr. Ohi Ojo, pointed out that the programme was conceived by the institute to further cement relationships and bridge gaps among the various ethnic groups in the country, in order to enhance peaceful co-existence and achieve sustainable national development.
Ohi therefore called on interested persons to make themselves available to take advantage of the opportunity provided by NICO, saying there are numerous benefits accruable in learning an additional language.
In their remarks, the State Director, Code of Conduct Bureau, Ilorin office, Mrs. Gbemisola Ayobami Afolabi and Deputy Superintendent of Corps (DSC), Saheed Adepoju, of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Kwara State Command, who were both Special Guests at the event, admired the commitment of the Institute in its efforts to bring Nigeria back on track culturally through its programmes.
While stressing that the language programme would go a long way in ameliorating the various crisis bedeviling the country, Mrs Afolabi in a show of commitment to the programme, registered to study Hausa language.
The programme had in attendance, guests from Kwara State Tourism Board; Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC), Kwara State Command; Code of Conduct Bureau as well as teachers and students of Secondary Schools in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital.
