The National Institute for Cultural Orientation (NICO), a parastatal of the Federal Ministry of Information & Culture, in line with its objective of training cultural development officers is again set to organize a 2-Day Capacity Building Workshop for cultural workers in the country with the theme: “Repositioning Nigerian Cultural Workers for Improved Productivity.”

The capacity-building workshop which is designed to keep Cultural Officers on Grade Levels 07-13 at the Federal and State levels abreast of contemporary realities in the culture sector, enhance their professional skills and competence for effective service delivery is scheduled to take place from 28th to 29th March, 2019 at Oasis Grand Hotel & Gardens, Mararaba, Nasarawa State by 10am.

The workshop is expected to among others, sensitize participants to Nigeria’s cultural potentials and harness them effectively for national development; promote better understanding of Nigeria’s history and culture; sensitize participants to the role of culture in sustainable economic development of the nation; prepare participants adequately for the challenges of globalization; and underscore the strategic relevance of culture for effective service delivery.

Resource persons for the workshop have been carefully selected from the academia to present papers on the following topics: Cultural Policy and the Challenges of Cultural Administration in Nigeria by Prof. Mabel Evwierhoma; Mainstreaming Culture in the Nation’s Economic Agenda by Prof. Ama Gowon Doki; Principles and Practice of Cultural Events Management by Prof. Emmanuel Dandaura; “Cultural Research and Report Writing” by Prof. B.O.U Oshionebo; Cultural Diplomacy and National Development by Dr. Philip Umaru; and Museum in Contemporary Nigeria by Dr. (Mrs) Carolyn N. Ezeokeke.
