The Governing Board of the National Institute for Cultural Orientation (NICO), on Thursday, May 30, 2019 gave approval for the release of the 2018 staff promotion examination results.
The approval was given during the meeting of the Board at the Institute’s head office, located at No. 23, Kigoma Street, Wuse Zone 7, Abuja, FCT to deliberate on issues concerning the Institute and its activities.
Speaking during the meeting, the Board Chairman, Alhaji Yusuf Galambi, who was represented by Mrs. Memunat Idu-Lah, disclosed that having gone through briefs of recommended staff and their score sheets, the Board has approved the promotion results of the recommended officers presented to it.
Expressing the Board’s satisfaction with the Institute’s adherence to public service rules on promotion examinations and other related civil service guidelines, Galambi further directed that officers who scored 60% and above be issued their promotion letters with effect from January,2018.
Before the Board’s approval, the Institute’s Director of Administration and Human Resources, Alhaji Ibrahim Husseini, disclosed that a total of one hundred and forty seven (147) officers were successful in the promotion exercise and therefore recommended for promotion while eighty six (86) officers failed the exams.
According to him, among officers who participated in the exercise from CONRAISS 14/GL.15 to CONRAISS 06/GL.7, CONRAISS 14/GL. 15 and CONRAISS 13/GL. 14 had one officer each promoted while CONRAISS12/ Grade Level 13 had 3 officers promoted.
CONRAISS11/Grade level 13 had 8 successful candidates; 50 candidates were successfully promoted to CONRAISS 10/Grade level 12; CONRAISS 9/Grade Level 10 had 73 officers promoted while CONRAISS 7/Grade level 8 had just one successful candidate.
Earlier, The Acting Executive Secretary of NICO, Mr. Louis Eriomala, presented a score card of the Institute’s activities from January to May, 2019. Amongst them were; the skill acquisition and empowerment programmes in Amuda Town, Abia State and Offa, Kwara State; repositioning Nigerian cultural workers for improved productivity; NICO quarterly public lecture series; Weekend edition of Nigerian Indigenous Language Programme (NILP) that was flagged off on April 5, 2019 in all the NICO six zonal and state offices nationwide; Launching of Nigerian Indigenous Languages in the Barracks in Ilorin, Lagos, Enugu and Abuja; a 2-day Annual Round Table on Cultural Orientation (ARTCO) held at Lokoja, Kogi State; and World Culture Day Celebration which was observed by all the Zonal and State offices as well as the Institute’s head office in Abuja.
The NICO Boss further briefed the board on the institute’s publications currently in the press to include; Culture of Peace and National Security in Nigeria; a Collection of Nigerian Folktales for Children; a Compendium of African Proverbs and Wise Sayings: Focus on Nigeria; and National Language Newspapers and Development in Nigeria amongst others.
Apart from the field research work on Akwete cloth weaving and review of a documentary on Kwaghi-Hir theatrical performance in Benue State, Eriomala added that Institute has collaborated with the National Assembly to organize cultural orientation and sensitization programmes during the period under review
The Board Chairman and members unanimously gave the Acting ES a vote of confidence in his ability to take the Institute to greater during his short period of time he has taken over the leadership of NICO and urged him to do more.
