Head Centre for French Teaching and Documentation, South-East and South-South geo-political zones, Monsieur Dominique Fancelli, has described the impact of the National Institute for Cultural Orientation (NICO) in Enugu State, during a short frame of time, as cheering.
The French polyglot, who spoke in English, noted with nostalgia the rich cultural heritage of Nigeria in the 1970s and 80s, stressing that such trend is however taking a down-turn, and that NICO has to continue its aggressive sensitization efforts.
Earlier, the Enugu State Head of the Institute, Mr. Nnaemeka Nwajagu, who led the delegation of staffers on the visit, had told Monsieur Fancelli, that the establishment of the Enugu State Office of the Institute by the Executive Secretary, Dr. Barclays Foubiri Ayakoroma, was to strengthen the NICO’s on-going efforts at reviving Nigeria’s fast eroding cultural values and norms in line with the Transformation Agenda of President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan’s administration.
After reeling out the aims, objectives and programmes of NICO, Mr. Nwajagu went further to inform his host that the Institute, under the leadership of Dr. Ayakoroma, had re-doubled efforts at arresting what he called, “the socio-cultural malaise,” that has eaten deep into the fabric of the family system.
In his vote of thanks, Francelli expressed appreciation for the visit, wishing NICO well in its endeavours.
