The Chairman of Kolokuma-Opokuma Local Government Area of Bayelsa State, Hon. Ebikitin Diongoli, has promised to support the programmes of the South-South Zonal office of the National Institute for Cultural Orientation, acknowledging the untiring efforts of NICO in promoting the preservation of our indigenous languages and culture.
The Council boss, who made the promise when the Institute’s South-South Zonal head, Mr. James Imohiosen, paid him a courtesy visit, stated that he was worried over the fast eroding trend of our rich cultural heritage and the inability of our young ones to speak our indigenous languages.
Hon. Diongoli stated that as an historian, he is an apostle of the advocacy for the preservation of our indigenous languages and culture, and affirmed that his council will not only actively participate in the forthcoming indigenous language programme, but will support and collaborate with the Institute in its various programmes.
Thanking the Chairman for the opportunity to visit his office and the warm reception given to him and his team, Head of the South-South office of the Institute, Mr. James Imohiosen, stated that the zonal offices were set up to enable the Institute identify and interact with those at the grassroots, who are the custodian of the culture of the people, stressing that the Institute needs the continued support of stakeholders, like the Chairman, to actualize its mandate.
