The Executive Secretary of National Institute for Cultural Orientation (NICO), Dr. Barclays Foubiri Ayakoroma, has commended NICO State Office for the effective and efficient way it was representing the Institute, saying the idea of decentralizing, to bring the services of NICO closer to the states, has further reaffirmed the strategic position of NICO in harnessing culture for national development.
Dr. Ayakoroma, who stated this when he paid an unscheduled visit to the State Office on Tuesday, 6th May, 2014, to assess its level of performance, expressed satisfaction with what he saw on ground and commended the State Head, Mr. Nwajagu Nnaemeka, as a focused person who is ready to run along with the vision of management.
The ES stated that the NICO Enugu State Office was strategically placed to serve the people of Enugu, Anambra, and Ebonyi States, to ensure that the Institute reaches out to all the people across the South-East geo-political zone, giving thanks to God Almighty for His favour, which has improved the visibility of NICO, compared to the conditions he met on assumption of office.
He disclosed that his coming to Enugu was like homecoming, as he did his National Youth Service in “the coal city,” some three decades ago, describing Enugu, as a home of rich culture and tourism potentials, and commending members of staff in the State Office, especially Corporate Affairs, for their effective job performance.
On issues concerning staff promotions, promotion arrears, capacity building workshops, and other welfare packages, raised by staffers, Ayakoroma assured that management will handle them appropriately within the available resources.
The visit was spiced with the typical presentation of kola nuts (with palm wine) and traditional Igbo attire to the ES by the State Head, Mr. Nwajagu Nnaemeka, just as the staffers, ceremoniously, named the NICO boss, “Ome nke ahuru n’anya,” of NICO Enugu, meaning, “the great achiever of NICO Enugu.”
