Nigerian Academy of Letters (NAL), the apex organization of Nigerian academics and scholars in humanities, has concluded plans to host its 2013 Annual Lecture with the theme: “Nigeria’s First Century: Critical Pluses and Minuses.”
The Annual Lecture, under the Chairmanship of Professor Munzali Jibril, which is scheduled to hold at the Auditorium of the National Universities Commission (NUC), Maitama-Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory, on Thursday, March 7, 2013, will be delivered by foremost historian and former Vice-Chancellor of University of Ibadan, Ibadan, Oyo State, Professor Emeritus Tekena N. Tamuno, D.Litt (London), FNAL.
Professor Tamuno, a distinguished scholar, is a regular Fellow of the Nigerian Academy of Letters (FNAL), and has written several books and publications and co-authored many others bothering on diverse aspects of the society.
The Academy, which was established to promote, maintain and encourage excellence in all branches of humanistic studies, owes its origin to the report of the Public Service Panel (the Udoji Report) of 1974, which recommended the creation of a National Academy of Arts and Sciences.
