The management of the Nasarawa State University, Keffi (NSUK), has commended the leadership of the National Institute for Cultural Orientation (NICO) for its foresight in organizing a pre-convocation lecture, as part of events to mark the Maiden Convocation Ceremony of the Institute’s Training School in Lagos, saying it was in line with extant academic traditions.
Stating this in a letter, dated August 22, 2013, with the caption, “Letter of Appreciation and Felicitations,” addressed to the Executive Secretary, Dr. Barclays Foubiri Ayakoroma, the Acting Vice-Chancellor, NSUK, Professor Aminu S. Mikailu, gave the assurance that the University will do everything possible to give NICO all the necessary academic support it needs to sustain the current variety and high quality of the Institute’s training programmes.
Expressing delight for the opportunity given to the University to participate in the Maiden Convocation Ceremony of the Institute’s Training School, Mikailu appreciated the Institute for the warm reception accorded the delegation from the University, saying the collaboration between NSUK and NICO will be productive and of mutual benefit.
The letter reads in part: “I am personally delighted to have been part of the 20th Anniversary celebrations of the establishment of your Institute during our visit. Having listened to the encomiums showered on you and your management team by dignitaries during the ceremonies in Lagos, I am convinced that the collaboration between our two Institutions will be productive and mutually beneficial.
“You will recall that on August 16, 2013, NICO held the 4th Public lecture at the Nigerian Institute of International Affairs while the 1st Convocation Ceremony for graduands of the NICO Training School took place on August 17, 2013 at the Cinema Hall II of the National Theatre, Iganmu-Lagos State. These activities were organized to mark NICO’s 20th Anniversary as Nigeria’s leading cultural training Institute.”
It will be recalled that Nasarawa State University, Keffi (NSUK) and National Institute for Cultural Orientation (NICO) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), on April 18, 2012, for an affiliation of NICO Training School with the Department of Theatre & Cultural Studies, NSUK.
