The newly-appointed Ondo State Honourable Commissioner for Education, Arch. Olajide Adejuyigbe, has commended the dress sense of staffers of National Institute for Cultural Orientation (NICO), saying that their wearing of native attires was worthy of emulation.
Arch. Adejuyigbe, who made the commendation when a NICO team, led by the South-West Zonal Head, Mr. Ohi Ojo, paid him a courtesy visit in his office, appreciated NICO’s efforts in the South-West, particularly in Ondo State, and promised to give the Zonal Office the necessary support to achieve its set objectives.
His words: “We will give you all the necessary support, because it has to do with our existence as a nation; and whatever you do that will promote the culture of our people, we must support it; and especially those programmes that involve our children at the elementary stage will be very good for us. We will support and back you up.”
The Honourable Commissioner then drew the Institute’s attention to the new National Policy on Education, which emphasizes the use of the mother tongue in imparting knowledge at the elementary schools, and urged NICO to liaise with the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry for whatever support, assuring the Institute of the State Government’s support in all its planned programmes.
Earlier in his speech, NICO South-West Zonal Head, Mr. Ohi Ojo, thanked the ministry on behalf of the Executive Secretary, Dr. Barclays Foubiri Ayakoroma, for their support to the Zonal Office, since it was established in Akure, Ondo State.
Mr. Ojo enumerated the Institute’s activities since inception in the Zone, equally drawing attention to some recent programmes, particularly the staging of an epic drama at the 2013 Children’s Day Celebration, with his Permanent Secretary, Mrs. Taiwo Kolawole in attendance, a performance that drew accolade from the State Executive Governor, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko, in his Goodwill Message.
He then solicited the Commissioner’s support for the Institute’s forth-coming programmes, which include the Nigerian Indigenous Language Programme (NILP) beginning in the first week of August, and preparation for the zonal and final competitions of the proposed NICO National Children’s Cultural Fiesta among Cultural Clubs, later in the year.
He said: “As the cradle of rich cultural milieu, we intend to showcase the best cultural show from this part of the country to the nation’s psyche through this competition. Our request is in form of logistics support because we believe this zone has a lot to offer in the area of culture;” and finally requested support for the 2nd edition of the Zone’s Children’s Cultural Fiesta in December, 2013.
