The Acting Director, Orientation and Cultural Affairs of National Institute for Cultural Orientation (NICO), Mr. Alex Omijie, has urged civil servants to always work towards excellence each time they are sent for training by their various establishments, stressing that it would go a long way to establishing trust on the part of the managements that sent such staffers on training.
Omijie, who stated this at the occasion of honouring two staffers, Mrs. Regina Onuoha and Mr. Arnold Elue, who recently won awards at the NICO Training School Convocation Ceremony, said that was the best way of leaving legacies in any place, where one works.
His words: “It is also a way to show that your office can have confidence in you. Such feat should be celebrated. It is a mark of excellence that out of the 12 candidates who were best, two of them, Mrs. Regina Onuoha and Mr. Arnold Elue, are from our department, Orientation and Cultural Affairs of the Institute. I am delighted at their performance. Excellence in scholarship is worth celebrating. It is good for people to leave a good legacy whenever they are sent for any training from their offices. When you do well, you are putting the organization you work in a very good light”
Explaining that the celebration was meant to encourage other staffers, who are currently in the Training School and those who will subsequently attend the school, Omijie asserted: “We need to appreciate what the management of NICO is doing for us as staffers in the Institute. Such appreciation can come by way of distinguishing yourself when you are sent for this kind of training. Your excellent performance will be on your CV. It will become an added advantage. So, those who will soon go, prepare your mind that you will do well. People should stop seeing sending them to NICO Training School as suffering. You can even nominate yourself. I have at least two staffers, who have applied that they want to go to training school.”
Also speaking, the Director, Administration and Human Resources, Barr. Abayomi Oyelola, mni, commended Onuoha and Elue, describing the duo as excellent students, saying: “The truth is that those who seek knowledge will always develop themselves and knowledge comes with training and education.”
On his part, the Director, Finance and Accounts, Elder Godson Ordu, also praised both staffers for the feat they achieved, and urged others to emulate them; while the Assistant Director, Administration and Human Resources, Mrs. Jane Anigala, in commending the achievers, called on those who are yet to go to the Training School to see the programme as a serious exercise in which they must come out with flying colours like those being celebrated.
Responding on behalf of the awardees, Mrs. Regina Onuoha said she gladly appreciated that they were being celebrated for excellence, even as she thanked the Management for nominating them for the training.
“We are grateful to the Director for this initiative to celebrate us in the office, because of the awards we got. I feel honoured. I must say that I passed through difficult times in the School, but I was determined to make the best out of the situation. I thank God for everything,” she said.
It will be recalled that Mrs. Regina Onuoha, Chief Cultural Officer and Mr. Arnold Elue, Cultural Officer II, were awarded the Best Student Post Graduate Diploma in Cultural Administration (PGDCA) for the 2011/2012 session and Best Student Post Graduate Diploma in Cultural Administration (PGDCA) for the 2010/2011 session, respectively, during the Convocation Ceremony of 2008-2012 Graduands of NICO Training School, which took place recently at the Cinema Hall II, National Arts Theatre, Iganmu-Lagos
