A 3-day national workshop on, “Repositioning Public Officers for Improved Productivity,” organised by National Institute for Cultural Orientation (NICO), starts Monday, 21st October, 2013, through Wednesday, 23rd October 2013, at the Merit House, Maitama, Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory.
A statement by the acting director in the office of the executive secretary, Mr. Nelson Ebi Campbell, said that the workshop, the 7th in the series, which is expected to be declared open by the honourable minister of culture, tourism and national orientation, Chief Edem Duke, is designed, among other things to motivate and train workers for improved performance and to meet global best practices in the culture and tourism sector.
NIC) is responsible for the training of culture officers who will not only facilitate the practical application of Nigeria’s culture in everyday activity but project the cultural image of Nigeria nationally and internationally; and the institute, with the approval of the minister, only recently, organised a repositioning workshop for 78 staffers of the ministry.
The objectives of the repositioning workshop series include, enhancing the professional skills of participants; sensitizing participants to Nigeria’s culture and tourism potentials and harnessing them effectively for national development; promoting better understanding of Nigeria’s history and culture; sensitizing participants to the role of culture in the socio-economic development of the nation; and preparing participants for the challenges of globalisation.
The workshop will feature resource persons who are not only academics but also well-grounded in culture and tourism matters and current trends in sustainable development, including Professor Sam Kafewo (ABU), Professor Emmanuel Dandaura (NSUK), Associate Professor ABC Duruaku (IMSU), and Dr. Barclays Foubiri Ayakoroma (ES, NICO), among others.
