NICO Training School, on Thursday, February 6, 2014, organised an Induction/Orientation Programme for the 2013/2014 Academic Session, aimed at sensitizing fresh intakes to the academic activities and guidelines of the School.

It turned out to be a lively interactive session as participants and principal officers of the Training School had open discussions on how students can excel in their academic studies in line with the objectives of National Institute for Cultural Orientation (NICO).

Delivering her Welcome Address, the Director, Mrs. Brigitte Yerima, stressed that the training which the school provides will enable students to improve productivity and performance as officers and professionals in the culture sector, and therefore charged the new students to be disciplined and always abide by the rules and regulations governing the School.

She introduced the newly-published Code of Conduct for students and expressed optimism that all the students will have a fruitful and happy stay in the school for the period they will be engaged with academic studies.

Counselling the students, Mr. Louis Eriomala, Director and Head of NICO Liaison Office, Lagos, urged the students to make every effort to achieve academic prowess by adopting the right attitudes, to study with open minds and show respect to the resource persons, irrespective of the fact that they were workers.

In his contribution, Head of Academics of the School, Dr. Dipo Kalejaiye, advised the students to work hard to be distinguished, stressing that they should also be original in their research works and adhere to research project deadlines.

On his part, Head of Registry and Administration, Alhaji Bashir Mohammed, said that students will not be able to achieve much except they abide by the rules as contained in the students’ Code of Conduct; and therefore advised them to embrace it and refer to it from time to time as it was designed to make their stay in the school hitch free.

And in line with the vision of the Executive Secretary, Dr. Barclays Foubiri Ayakoroma to improve productivity and enhance performance of workers in the culture sector, Mr. Law

Ezeh, lecturer and Students Affairs Officer, said that students needed to remind themselves always that they were in the school for capacity building, to reposition and improve their productivity.train2

One of the highlights during this session was a standing ovation for one of the newly-inducted students, Pa Alimi Amodu, the Graduate at 80, now aged 82 and a postgraduate diploma student, who insisted that, he was the ‘youngest intake’ of the school.

The induction/orientation programme which was specially organized for the over 70 newly admitted Diploma and Post Graduate Diploma students in Cultural Administration for the 2013/2014 Academic session, was rounded off with a facility tour of the National Theatre.
