altThe Executive Secretary, National Institute for Cultural Orientation (NICO), Dr. Barclays Foubiri Ayakoroma, has called on State Governments, especially, the States’ Ministries of Education, and well-meaning Nigerians, to show special interest in the technological and scientific knowledge of Nigerian children.

Stating this when he visited the Nigerian Television Authority Educational Television (NTA etv) Children Expo 2012, Dr. Ayakoroma said if the children are given the desired attention, Government will know when and how to be part of the creative, scientific, and technological ingenuity in young Nigerians, adding that if there are enabling environments for technologically minded children, they will go far and produce greater things.

Commending the ingenuity in the operations of a Solar Powered AC Inverter, Frequency Reading Lamp, SMS Base Multi-Purpose Security and GSM Alarm System, and Local Fish Drier for Barbecue, designed by young Bayelsans, Dr. Ayakoroma said he was amazed at the creative ingenuity of the children, adding that, “It shows that the future is bright for us in Bayelsa and Nigeria as a whole. This is because, if these children can do these while in secondary school, it means when they come out, they will develop further and do better. It is on this note I call on the Ministry of Education and the Governors of our various States in Nigeria to show interest in what our children are doing. I also urge NTA to broadcast these, so that the appropriate authorities should watch and pick interest in the technological developments by these children.”

The four-day Children Expo, which started on the 14th of October, 2012, will end on the 18th of October, 2012, and has children of junior and senior categories from virtually all the 36 states of the federation participating, with the NTA stations coordinating, including, NTA Akure, NTA Jalingo, NTA Jos, NTA Kano, NTA Lokoja, NTA Makurdi, NTA Port Harcourt, NTA Uyo, and NTA Yenagoa, among others.
