The Senior Special Adviser to President Jonathan on Ethics and Values, Dr. (Mrs.) Sarah Jibril, has called on Nigerians to transform their cultural ideals, since there cannot be peace and economic empowerment if the inner attitudes of the populace are not transformed, stressing that human disposition must be positive and directed towards a common goal of lifting the nation forward through culture.
Dr. Jibril, who made this call in her remark at the colloquium event of the 26th Edition of National Festival of Arts and Culture (NAFEST), which took place on Wednesday, October 17, 2012 at the Royal Shekinah Hotels, Ilorin, stressed that if there is equity and transparency in government, it will reduce corruption and siphoning of funds; and she disclosed that there is a proposed bill that will indict anyone that steals public funds and banks that receive such money, to curb aiding and abetting frauds.
She stated that the practice of deceit and looting in the country needs to be eradicated, to enable the country return to its lost glory, and further decried the high level of indecent dressing, especially by young Nigerian girls, which is contrary to the ideals of the founding fathers of our great nation.
Jibril, therefore, called on stakeholders in the culture sector to give necessary orientation to their wards to desist from indecent dressing in the name of modernization, stressing that for culture to thrive in the right direction, there should be change in our disposition toward our culture, which is the way of life of the people.
