The newly-elected Chairman of Amalgamated Union of Public Corporations, Civil Service, Technical and Recreation Service Employees (AUPCTRE), National Institute for Cultural Orientation (NICO) chapter, Comrade Onyekachi Nwanguma, visited the South-East Zonal Headquarters of the Institute, located at No. 9A Works Road, off Okigwe Road, Owerri, Imo State, as part of his familiarization tour to NICO Zonal offices.
Comrade Nwanguma, who was accompanied, on the visit, by the Financial Secretary, Comrade Ifeoma Ogba, briefed members of staff on the National Housing Policy of the Federal Government and the Abuja Land Project, embarked upon by his administration, as well as achievements of his administration, since his assumption office, and solicited the support and cooperation of the zone to enable him take the union to greater heights.
The question and answer session of the meeting was an opportunity for members of the Union to get answers on issues that had been bothering them, ranging from Condition of Service, National Housing Scheme, Pension Matters, National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), 28 days Allowance, Training School Allowance, NICO’s fate in the Steve Oronsanye’s Rationalization Committee Report, and General Staff Welfare, to which the Chairman responded to the satisfaction of all.
Highlight of the visit was the re-election of Comrade Ernest Otoh of Audit Unit, as AUPCTRE – NICO South-East Zonal Representative and Comrade Ifunanya Dike, of Admin Department, as the Deputy Zonal Representative.
In his vote of thanks, Comrade Otoh, on behalf of members of the zone, thanked the Chairman for his visit and pledged their loyalty and continuous support for his administration.
Members of staff were thrilled as they learnt, for the first time, how to sing the popular solidarity song of Labour Unions, as they sang the song repeatedly, with joy and excitement, knowing fully well that indeed, “the union makes us strong.”
