Students of NICO Training School, taking the second semester examinations, were pleasantly surprised, when the Executive Secretary, Dr. Barclays Foubiri Ayakoroma, on Friday, 25th October, 2013, appeared unexpectedly at the examination halls, discreetly checking students’ questions and answer sheets, supervising the sitting arrangements and alertness of scheduled invigilators, and making sure the atmosphere was conducive for maximum concentration of students.
As the ES carried out his inspection of the examinations in progress, some academic staffers of the Training School were on hand to respond to questions or observations made by him or other members of his entourage.
The visit of the ES, a thorough bred academician himself, to the Training School was to ensure that integrity of the strictly conducted examinations was not compromised; and it is clear that the leader of this Federal Government institute is focused on realizing the vision of making NICO the apex and leading cultural training institute in Nigeria.
He was accompanied during this inspection tour by the director, Training School, Mrs. Brigitte Yerima, acting director in the office of the ES, Mr. Nelson Campbell, head, NICO North-West zonal office, Mr. Ibrahim Husseini, and the deputy director/head of academic unit of the school, Dr. Dipo Kalejaiye.
The second semester examinations of the 2012/2013 academic session of the NICO Training School commenced on Monday, 21 October, 2013, with students of the diploma course in cultural administration who ended theirs on Friday, 25 October, 2013; while the post graduate diploma students in cultural administration that just commenced theirs, will conclude on Friday, 1st November, 2013.
The Training School of National Institute for Cultural Orientation (NICO) runs diploma course programme in cultural administration (DCA) and postgraduate diploma in cultural administration (PGDCA); and each of the programmes runs for twelve (12) calendar months with two semesters for course work.
While the diploma programme is designed to provide students with the basic knowledge of cultural administration and enhance performance in the work environment, the postgraduate diploma programme provides a platform for HND and university graduates to become confident cultural officers that are well positioned for careers in the culture and tourism sector.
