The Executive Secretary, National Institute for Cultural Orientation (NICO), Dr. Barclays Foubiri Ayakoroma, has commended the Federal Ministry of Culture, Tourism and National Orientation, under the leadership of Chief Edem Duke, for the confidence reposed on the Institute to undertake capacity building workshops for staffers of the Ministry.
Ayakoroma gave this commendation on Tuesday, 1st July, 2014 at the opening ceremony of a 5-Day Workshop on Repositioning Culture Workers for Improved Productivity, organized by NICO for staffers in the Culture Department of the Ministry at the Oasis Grand Hotel & Gardens, Mararaba, Nasarawa State.
According to the NICO Boss, it was an honour that the Ministry appreciated the professional capacity and ability of the Institute to train culture workers in the Ministry to enhance their job performance even when it was not obliged to.
His words: “The Ministry is not obliged to use NICO to run this programme; but because we have a Management that appreciates professionalism and knows that NICO is well positioned to organise these workshops, we have been mandated to do that. And I must say it is a very rare privilege for us to do what we know how best to do.”
While expressing confidence that the maiden edition in the series of capacity building workshops by the Institute for staffers of the Ministry last year was very rewarding, Ayakoroma further expressed optimism that this edition will be more rewarding, saying, “I believe we have come with very high expectations. I want to tell us that workshops of this nature are more of knowledge sharing; but unfortunately, there are some persons who are looking more towards the financial gain. The money will finish today or tomorrow, but the knowledge you have gained will never be lost because we are living in a world that is knowledge-driven.”
He therefore assured the leadership of the Ministry that the quality of capacity building workshops for staffers of the Ministry organised by NICO will continue to improve by the day.
