The National Institute for Cultural Orientation (NICO), Enugu State Office, on 5th October, 2015, started an induction programme for members of staff posted newly to the state office.
The induction ceremony commenced with all the newly posted staffers, heads of the units and other members of staff in attendance, just as they were all mandated to dress in traditional attires and participate throughout the programme.
Speaking at the occasion, to formally kick-start the programme on behalf of the Executive Secretary, Dr. Barclays Foubiri Ayakoroma, the NICO Enugu State Head, Mr. Nnaemeka Nwajagu, gave a brief history of the State Office, the hardship the Institute was facing in the areas of finance and office accommodation and furniture, advising that they should bear with Management as plans were being made to properly address the challenges.
He reiterated the essence of the NICO dress code, emphasizing that all staffers must dress in traditional attires on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays in line with Management’s policy to promote Nigerian dress culture as cultural officers and worthy ambassadors of the Institute, and also take the issue of punctuality to work seriously and making themselves relevant and ready to learn, as there is dignity in labour.
Lending her voice to the above, the Head of Admin and Human Resources, Mrs. Evelyn Eze, appreciated the State Head and encouraged all staffers to put in their best on the job to ensure greater productivity.
Also speaking, Mr. Tony Chukwu of the ICT Unit enlightened staffers on the need to be always informed, stressing thus: “As we all know, the world is a global village, with ICT; information rules the world.”
From the perspective of Finance & Accounts, Mr. Tony Ekiazi observed that a good accountant should be honest, transparent and accountable and that he/she should be dedicated to duty; while Miss Precious Enwere, Head of Stores Unit educated staffers on the proper use of the Requisition Form to access materials from the Store and how to use the Bin Card.
In a closing remark, Mr. Austin Okezie of the Research and Documentation Unit applauded the resource persons, just as he also thanked the Management of NICO, especially the State Head, Mr. Nnaemeka Nwajagu, who in his innovative style, planned and executed the epoch-making event.
The 5-day induction programme ended on Friday, 9th October, 2015.
